It all started in 1983 when GM Egypt became the first automotive manufacturer in the country, assembling GM vehicles for the local market. GM Egypt has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to bring the latest innovations to our plant operations located in 6th of October City. Today, as an automotive market leader in Egypt, particularly in the commercial truck segment for 40 years, GM Egypt has a significant impact on the overall industry ecosystem – which includes local suppliers, distribution network, thousands of individual truck customers, and hundreds of companies.
With over 145,000 square meters, GM Egypt produces Chevrolet passenger and commercial vehicles ranging from trucks, pickups (famously known as the Dabbabah and Jumbo) and buses for the Egyptian market and beyond, into Africa.
Recently, we announced that the latest MY 2025 Chevrolet Dabbabah pickup will be the first commercial vehicle produced in Egypt with an advanced new safety package, comprised of more than 60% local components. The new Dabbabah marks a significant milestone in our journey to double down on our production capacity, reinforcing our leadership position in the market and contributing to Egypt's economic growth by helping grow the local supplier economy.
In 2024, GM Egypt will be celebrating it's 1 millionth vehicle produced in the Egypt plant as it offers a sneak peek of the first new model launch under the Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP). The production of the millionth locally produced vehicle follows GM Egypt’s celebration of 41 years since it began production operations for the Egyptian community.
Additionally, GM Egypt has partnered with 78 local suppliers providing the plant with local vehicle components. This highlights the lasting impact the company and dedicated workforce have had on the local and business community.
For this ambitious vision, innovation is key and GM has invested millions of dollars towards the plant’s transformation. This includes enhancing safety and quality, in addition to integrating robotics and automation as the company prepares to ramp up operations.
As GM Egypt continues to play a major role in the country’s development, the organization is paving the way towards reshaping mobility in Egypt as it focuses on electrification and reimagining customer experiences through connectivity. This initiative includes GM Global introducing a suite of electric vehicles to the Egyptian market through the launch of the Cadillac brand.
Through the company’s 100+year global expertise and 40-year local plant capabilities, GM Egypt plans to become the regional export hub for GM vehicles in the region, expanding its footprint across the entire African continent.
